GE IC694MDL660 is a digital input module that is used in automated industrial systems. This module is typically developed in the GE Fanuc PACSystems RX3i / Series 90-30 PLC controller system. This module is used to take switch-quantity signals from field devices (simple-sized buttons, limit switches, proximity sensors, etc.) and convert those signals into numerical signals that the PLC is able to comprehend, which allows equipment status monitoring and logical control.

Product Function Overview
The 24V DC standard level is the input specification of the IC694MDL660 Digital Input Module, which is compatible with most sensors, switches, buttons, proximity switches, and other signal sources in industrial sites. It adopts a positive logic design, with high-level being effective, and is consistent with the mainstream PLC input habits, reducing the adaptation cost for on-site debugging.
The IC694MDL660 digital input module has excellent fault isolation capability. The 32 signals are divided into 4 groups, with each group consisting of 8 signals that are independently isolated. When a certain group of signals is interfered with or short-circuited, it will not affect the normal operation of other groups, and the fault range is limited to a local area.
The IC694MDL660 Digital Input Module is equipped with an intuitive status indication function. Each input corresponds to an independent LED indicator light, making it clear whether the signal is present or not. During on-site debugging, there is no need to use diagnostic tools; simply scanning the module panel can determine the sensor's action status.
As a component of the PACSystems RX3i platform, the IC694MDL660 Digital Input Module supports hot-swapping functionality. During maintenance, the module can be directly replaced while powered on, and the system automatically recognizes it, allowing maintenance to be completed without stopping the system, ensuring the system's continuous operation capability.
Why choose the GE Digital Input Module
The 32-point input is divided into 4 independent isolation channels, each consisting of 8 points. Single-point or single-channel failures are confined to a local area and do not affect the normal operation of other channels, thereby improving the system's fault-tolerant capability in complex industrial environments.
Each input is equipped with an independent LED status indicator light, allowing the signal status to be visually inspected. Without the need for programming equipment or diagnostic tools, on-site engineers can quickly determine the sensor action status and line integrity, reducing the time for fault troubleshooting.
Two specifications are provided: spring cage terminals and screw terminals. Spring terminals support quick connection without tools and are suitable for batch deployment and vibration environments; screw terminals have a secure press-fit connection and are suitable for high-reliability applications.
Compatible with the RX3i rack's hot-swappable function, modules can be replaced while the controller is powered on. During maintenance, there is no need to interrupt the controller's operation, minimizing the impact on the production process.
Deeply integrated with the RX3i controller, the Proficy Machine Edition programming environment automatically recognizes and configures.
As a native module of the RX3i platform, it is compatible with the 90-30 series I/O and can coexist. Existing systems can be gradually upgraded without the need to replace all hardware at once, maximizing investment benefits.
How to check the communication status of the module through the panel of GE IC694MDL660
----Panel Indicators
The module panel has two types of indicators that can quickly determine the basic status:
1.32 green input point LEDs (1–32)
On: Corresponding input point has a 24V DC signal (ON)
Off: Corresponding input point has no signal (OFF)
Flash: Usually indicates input filtering or module self-checking
2.Red/Green TB (Terminal Block) Status LED
Green: Terminal block has been correctly installed and locked
Red: Terminal block is not installed or not locked (a common cause of communication abnormalities)
----Programming software
Use Proficy Machine Edition (PME) to connect to the CPU and view detailed communication and status of the module:
1. Open PME and connect to the target RX3i CPU
2. Enter Hardware Configuration (Hardware Configuration)
Locate the IC694MDL660 module and check the Status column
Status is OK: Normal communication; Fault/Not Responding: Communication failure
3. View the module status word (Module Status Word)
Address: The **% I input area status word** corresponding to the module (usually the module's initial address + 1)
Key bit meanings:
Bit 10: I/O Data Ready (1 = Data ready, normal communication; 0 = Not ready)
Bit 11: Terminal Block Present (0 = Terminal block is normal; 1 = Missing / Unlocked)
----Communication anomaly troubleshooting steps
Check TB LED: Red → Reinstall and secure the terminal block
Check CPU and rack BUS lights: Off → Check the backplane, power supply, and rack connection
View module status in software: Not Responding → Check module installation, slot, and address configuration
Verify status word: Bit10 = 0 → Check module firmware version and bus communication parameters
Replace the module or slot for testing to troubleshoot hardware faults
