IC694BEM331 is a Genius Bus Controller. It can establish communication with up to 31 Genius I/O devices, and in the RX3i system, up to 8 of these modules can be installed simultaneously. Besides connecting to Genius series modules, it can also communicate with 90-70 series I/O racks, field control I/O stations, Genius handheld monitors, and multiple hosts. It supports both global data and data packet communication methods, and is compatible with different industrial control data interaction logics.

The primary features of IC694BEM331
The module is fitted with two indicator lights on the front panel, which are OK and COM.
The OK light will remain on when the power-on diagnostic has successfully completed to show that the module is functioning correctly. The communication is normal when the COM light is on.
The lamp blinks to indicate temporary errors, and turns off to indicate bus faults or the failure to acquire CPU configuration, hence assisting the user in troubleshooting.
Devices connected to the Genius bus will automatically report errors, warnings, and other information to this module to enhance fault detection. The diagnostic information will be stored in the module and then retrieved automatically by the CPU.
The programming software allows the display of certain failures in the failure table to allow personnel to easily identify and solve communication and equipment failures.
The setup is simple. Parameters can be set with the Proficy Machine Edition. You are not required to perform complex hardware debugging. The firmware can also be updated, and the status can be checked remotely, hence you will not have to remove modules frequently. This reduces time and cost.
The bus must be terminated at both ends by its characteristic impedance. The list of suitable cable types in the Genius I/O System and Communications User's Manual includes the termination requirements for each cable type. If the Bus Controller is at the end of the bus, install a resistor of the appropriate impedance across its Serial 1 and Serial 2 terminals as shown below.
If you need to install the terminating resistor across terminals different than those used for the signal wires, attach jumper wires between the signal wire terminals and the resistor terminals to prevent the bus from becoming unterminated if the Terminal Assembly is removed. Failure to do so will cause the entire bus to be disrupted whenever the faceplate is removed.
