Product Introduction
IC693CHS397 is a 5-slot modular CPU baseboard for GE Fanuc 90-30 series PLCS, now belonging to Emerson Automation. It is the core installation and connection component of this series of PLC systems. Through the 25-pin D-type female expansion connector on the right end, it can be connected to expansion or remote substrates. However, only one CPU base plate of this model can be present in a system. Additional expansion requires an expansion or a remote base plate.

Product Details
IC693CHS397M Modular CPU Baseplates
A Power Supply module must be plugged into the left slot (which is not numbered) of these baseplates. The left slot is a unique size and type that only supports a Power Supply module.
A CPU module (or a special Option module) must be installed in Slot 1 of these baseplates. Slot 1 is a unique size and type that only supports a CPU module or a special Option module like the FIP Remote I/O Scanner(IC693BEM330). Slot 1 is labelled CPU/1.
Slots numbered 2 and above are of a unique size and type that only supports I/O or Option modules.
Expansion and Remote baseplates are supported, so a 25-pin D-type female expansion connector is located at the right end of the baseplate for connecting to an Expansion or Remote baseplate.
Since the CPU is modular, it can be replaced or changed to a different type if additional features are desired.
Only one CPU baseplate is allowed per system. If more than one baseplate is used in a system, the additional ones must be either Expansion or Remote types.
A modular CPU baseplate is always assigned, by default, Rack Number 0.

IC693CHS397M Key Features
1. Genius Bus Controller Functions
Bus Management: As the master station, it manages a single Genius high-speed serial bus.
Device Connection: It can connect and control up to 31 independent Genius devices, including remote I/O modules, driver interfaces, and HMIs.
Communication Interface: The module front end provides a standard 9-pin D-type connector for connecting to a shielded twisted-pair Genius bus network.
Data Transfer: It establishes a bidirectional data exchange channel between the PLC master CPU and all Genius slave devices, mapping remote I/O to the master CPU's memory.
2. Integrated Coprocessor Functions
Independent Logic Unit: The module has a built-in dedicated coprocessor that can run user-written control programs independently of the master CPU.
Dedicated Programming: Development is performed using the "Block Programming" function in the Logicmaster 90-30 programming software. This is a text-based high-level programming language suitable for implementing algorithms, protocol processing, and data management.
Parallel Execution: The coprocessor program runs asynchronously and in parallel with the main PLC's ladder diagram scan cycle, enabling higher speed and deterministic control.
Task Offloading: Dedicated to handling computationally intensive tasks (such as complex PID control, data logging, custom communication protocol parsing, string processing, etc.), significantly reducing the workload of the main CPU.
Physical and Installation Specifications
Module Size: Standard 90-30 series single-slot module.
Installation Location: Must be installed in the rightmost slot (i.e., the last slot to the left of the power supply module) of the Series 90-30 PLC's local rack (CPU rack or first expansion rack). This rule is mandatory.
Power Consumption: Typical value is 5V DC @ 750mA (from backplane power supply).
LED Status Indicators: Multiple LEDs on the front of the module indicate the following statuses:
Power (PWR)
Run (RUN)
Genius Bus Communication Status (COM)
Coprocessor/Module Failure (FAULT)
Technical Specifications
Genius Communication Rate: 153.6 kbps (fixed).
Maximum Network Distance: At a rate of 153.6 kbps, the maximum transmission distance using standard cable is approximately 750 meters (2460 feet). This can be extended using repeaters.
Coprocessor Memory: Features non-volatile memory for storing user block programs and data.
I/O Mapping: The I/O points of connected Genius devices can be flexibly mapped to the %I, %Q, %AI, and %AQ address regions of the main CPU via software configuration.
Configuration and Programming
Hardware Configuration: Hardware configuration is performed in the Proficy Machine Edition (PME) or VersaPro software to define the devices on the Genius bus and their I/O addresses.
Coprocessor Programming: Dedicated block programs must be written, compiled, and downloaded within the Logicmaster 90-30 software environment. The program is directly downloaded and stored in the IC693CHS397M module.
Typical Application Areas
This module is suitable for industrial automation systems requiring distributed intelligence and advanced control functions, such as:
Complex process control systems require high-speed closed-loop control.
Systems requiring custom serial communication (ASCII/Modbus RTU) with third-party devices (such as smart meters, barcode scanners, and RFID).
Applications requiring large amounts of data acquisition, preprocessing, formatting, or message generation.
Situations where the main CPU program capacity or scan time is limited, requiring the decoupling of some functions.
