Product Introduction
IC693CHS392 serves as a gateway or adapter, connecting the backplane bus of the GE 90-30 series PLC and the Genius I/O bus. Its function is to enable the 90-30 series PLC (acting as the master station) to manage and control remote I/O stations (such as discrete I/O modules, analogue modules, special function modules, etc.) distributed throughout the factory, and to connect them through a single twisted pair (Genius bus).

Product Details
IC693CHS392 Main technical specifications and features
Physical interface:
Front end: A 9-pin D-type serial connector for connection to the Genius bus. The Genius bus is a high-speed, deterministic serial communication network.
The rear end: Insert it into the slot of the CPU rack or expansion rack of the 90-30 series PLC.
Supported racks and slots:
It must be installed in the local rack of the 90-30 series PLC.
It can be installed on the rack where the CPU is located, or on the first expansion rack connected via an extension cable.
Slot limitation: It must be installed in the rightmost slot (i.e., the slot immediately to the left of the power module). This is a strict requirement of its hardware design.
Bus management capability:
One IC693CHS392G module can manage up to 31 independent Genius bus devices (with station addresses ranging from 1 to 31).
These devices can be remote I/O blocks, drive interfaces, human-machine interfaces, etc.
Communication performance:
Communication rate: 153.6 kbps.
Maximum bus length: It depends on the transmission rate and cable type. At 153.6 kbps, the maximum distance using standard twisted-pair cable is approximately 750 meters (2,460 feet). The distance can be further extended by using repeaters.
LED status indicator light:
The front end of a module usually has multiple LEDs, which are used to indicate power supply, operating status, communication status and faults. They are important tools for diagnosing problems.
Configuration and Programming:
Configuration is accomplished through GE's programming software, Proficy Machine Edition (PME), or the earlier VersaPro.
In the hardware configuration, corresponding I/O addresses (%I, %Q, %AI, %AQ) need to be defined for each connected Genius device (accessed through IC693CHS392G), just as if using I/O modules on the local rack.
Application scenarios
This module is mainly used in the following architectures of automated systems:
The input/output points need to be distributed to multiple locations far from the PLC host to reduce a large amount of on-site wiring.
The existing system expansion requires additional I/O points, but the local rack slots are already full.
Multiple Genius buses are used within the factory to demarcate different equipment areas, achieving modular control.
