IC697PWR720 Power Supply Adapter Module

IC697PWR720 is now discontinued and belongs to Emerson Automation. Its core function is to provide stable voltage and current to the rack backplane, ensuring the normal operation of various modules on the rack. The module has dual rack operation capability, and dual rack power can be achieved using the IC697CBL700 power extension cable. There is no need to configure an additional independent power module for the expansion rack, which reduces the cost of system expansion and wiring complexity. It is suitable for large control scenarios that require multiple racks to work together.

IC697PWR720 does not contain a complete power conversion component on its own. Instead, it integrates multiple DC voltages provided by an external power source (either GE original or a third-party power source) through internal circuits and sends them to the backplane of the chassis.

Series 90-70 is an early medium-sized PLC platform of GE, featuring a VME-C.1 bus architecture. It was widely used in industrial fields such as petrochemicals, power generation, and heavy industry manufacturing.

√ Power Connection and Signals
5 V Bus Current Requirement: Approximately 50 mA (0.25 W) is required for maintaining the module's own logic.
Input External Power Requirement: A TTL-level Power-OK signal is needed to indicate the power input status.
Backplane Signal Output: Two logic signals, ACFAIL* (power failure warning) and SYSRESET* (system reset), are generated to manage the sequence of power on/off for the control system. Remote Sense: Supports +5 V remote sensing connection to enhance the voltage regulation accuracy of the backplane.

√ In some medium-sized and large-scale control systems, a dual-rack structure may exist: two racks jointly handle more I/O expansion or redundant logic. The IC697PWR720 supports this structure:
Connect the next rack via the dedicated extension cable IC697CBL700.
When a separate power supply is not required, the PSA can supply power to the mainframe rack.

1. Module Installation
Insert IC697PWR720 into the left power slot of the Series 90-70 PLC rack.
Make sure the module is firmly attached to the back panel.
Use the adapter cable to connect the external power supply to PSA; Configure the remote sensing line and the Power-OK signal line to meet the requirements for voltage stability and power monitoring.

2. Check the LED indicator light

The LED indicator on the PSA is ON when the +5 volt output is in regulation at the backplane,e and the TTL signal from the power supply indicates that the power supply input voltage is adequate to maintain hold-up time for an orderly system shutdown. This TTL signal can be positive or negative logic. Two terminals on the PSA terminal board (JP1 and JP0) are available for selecting the logic state. If positive logic (Input Power OK if TTL = high), no jumper is required; if negative logic (Input Power OK if TTL = low), a jumper is required between terminals JP1 and JP0.

This Power Supply Adapter Module operates from +5 VDC power, er which it receives from the +5 VDC power bus on the IC697 rack backplane.

The Power Supply Adapter is a single-slot module that plugs into the power supply slot, which is the leftmost slot of an IC697 rack. It connects to the external power supply module through a cable that has one end connected to the power supply. The free end of the cable should have a spring spade or ring lug, which must be connected to designated terminals on a terminal board on the Power Supply Adapter. This terminal board is accessed by opening the hinged door on the Power Supply Adapter module.
