IC695CMM002 Core functions and features
Dual Ethernet ports

It provides two 10/100 Mbps adaptive Ethernet ports, supports automatic MDI/MDI-X cross-detection, and uses standard RJ-45 connectors.

Main uses

Port 1: Typically used for connecting engineering workstations (for programming, monitoring, and diagnosis) or communicating with factory local area networks /SCADA systems.

Port 2: It is typically used to build highly reliable machine-level or system-level networks, such as for peer-to-peer communication with other RX3i CPUs, remote I/O or third-party devices.

The two ports can be independently configured and support different network topologies (for example, star and ring networks need to be used in conjunction with switches).

Protocol support

SRTP (Server Routing Transport Protocol): GE's proprietary, efficient industrial protocol for high-speed, deterministic data exchange between PACSystems controllers and connection of programming software (Proficy Machine Edition).

Modbus TCP server/Client: Enables RX3i PLC to easily exchange data with third-party devices that support Modbus TCP, such as HMI, drivers, instruments, etc. When acting as a client, it can actively read/write data from other devices.

DNP3 over Ethernet (via optional function blocks): Commonly used for communication in SCADA systems in industries such as power and water treatment.

FTP server: It can be used to transfer files (such as recipes, logs).

HTTP server: It provides basic web services and can be used for simple status monitoring.

Network Redundancy and Diagnosis

Supports ring network redundancy protocols (such as RSTP). When used in conjunction with switches that support this protocol, it can build highly available Ethernet networks with fast recovery times in case of network failures.

The front panel of the module is equipped with a rich array of LED indicator lights (such as power, status, port link/activity, port speed, etc.), facilitating on-site fault diagnosis.

As an interface of the CPU

In the RX3i system, this module usually has to be inserted into the left slot (slot 0) adjacent to the CPU. It serves as a crucial bridge between the CPU and the backplane, as well as the external network.

Machine control: As the main controller, it connects to the local HMI, remote I/O substation and frequency converter.

System integration: In large-scale production lines, multiple RX3i controllers conduct rapid data exchange (peer-to-peer communication) via CMM002.

SCADA connection: Communicates with the upper computer monitoring system via Modbus TCP or DNP3.

Form a redundant network: In situations where high reliability is required, build a ring or dual-star network.

Important Notes
Critical slot: Its installation position is mandatory (Slot 0). Incorrect installation will cause the system to fail to operate.

Configuration software: GE's Proficy Machine Edition software must be used to configure the IP address, subnet mask, gateway and protocol functions of the module.

Compatibility with CPU: It needs to be compatible with the firmware version of a specific model of RX3i CPU. Before configuration, please refer to the relevant compatibility manual.

Firmware update: The firmware can be updated through the Proficy Machine Edition to fix problems or add functions.

Discontinued status: Please note that the RX3i series products are at the end of their life cycle. GE/ Emerson has launched a new generation of PACSystems RXi and RX3i Pro products as alternatives. For new projects, it is strongly recommended to consider the new generation of products. This module is still needed for the maintenance of the existing system.
