IC698CPE020 Core features and specifications
1. Processor and Performance
CPU main frequency: 700 MHz Pentium-class processor, providing powerful computing capabilities.
Execution speed: The speed of processing logical instructions far exceeds that of the first-generation 90-70 CPUs (such as CPM790), and it is particularly adept at handling large and complex programs, including structured text and massive data processing tasks.
Deterministic control: While running multiple tasks, handling large amounts of I/O and complex network communications, it can still ensure predictable scanning cycles.
2. Memory configuration
User program memory: 20 MB (flash memory), used for storing logic, configuration and firmware.
User data memory: 10 MB (RAM), used for storing variables, arrays and temporary data.
Battery backup: The standard battery supports the retention of data memory (in case of power failure). Some models may have built-in supercapacitors to provide short-term data retention.
3. Communication interface
This is the outstanding highlight of this CPU:
On-board dual-port Ethernet switch
Port 1 (P1) and Port 2 (P2): Two 10/100BASE-TX auto-detect RJ45 ports.
Built-in switch function: Allows devices to be connected in a "Daisy chain" manner without the need for additional external switches, simplifying wiring and enhancing reliability.
Supported protocols: Natively supports SRTP (GE's proprietary industrial Ethernet protocol for programming, HMI communication and data exchange) and Modbus TCP client/server functionality. This is the main way it communicates with the host computer (SCADA/HMI), programming stations, and other Ethernet-supported devices.
Serial port
Serial Port 1 (S1): Isolated RS-485 port, supporting SNP slave (for traditional programmer connection) and Modbus RTU master/slave protocol.
Serial Port 2 (S2) An isolated RS-232/RS-485 configurable port, offering greater flexibility in application.
4. Control and expansion capabilities
Local I/O: Connected via the RX7i high-speed PCI backplane (rack model such as IC698CHS117), it supports a large number of high-performance and high-density I/O modules.
Remote I/O: Distributed I/O can be connected via the Genius bus (using GBC modules) or more modern networks such as Profibus-DP and DeviceNet.
I/O capacity: Far exceeding the 90-70 series, supporting tens of thousands of digital and analog I/O points.
5. Software and Programming
Engineering software: Use Emerson Proficy Machine Edition or newer Proficy Control System (PCS) for hardware configuration, programming (ladder diagrams, function blocks, structured text, C language blocks), debugging and diagnosis.
Portability: Its programming concept emphasises single development, multi-platform deployment. Program logic can be ported between PACSystems platforms of different hardware (such as RX3i) to protect user investment.
IC698CPE020 Typical application scenarios
Large-scale and complex process control (Chemical Engineering, oil and gas)
High-speed and high-precision machine control (metal processing, printing)
Critical infrastructure control (water/wastewater treatment, energy management)
As the central master station of a large-scale distributed control system.
