Product Details
As an output expansion unit in the SLC 500 control system, the 1746-OX8 provides 8 high-current, individually isolated relay output channels. Each output point can drive various on-site loads (such as lights, relay coils, contactors, etc.). Factory AB announced on September 30, 2024, that the production of 1746-OX8 has been halted . Consider using the modern SLC series relay output module or the ControlLogix/CompactLogix output module instead. Based on the system requirements, choose the transistor or solid-state output type, and obtain the corresponding software configuration and programming support.
1746-OX8 Product Features:
High current output: 8 independently isolated high current relay contact outputs to meet a variety of load requirements.
Wide voltage range: Supports DC 5-125V and AC 5-265V operating voltages, with strong applicability.
Good isolation performance: With an isolation voltage of 1500V, it can effectively prevent electrical interference.
High reliability: Complies with CS-232 NEMA standards, has good noise resistance, and can work in harsh environments, such as Class 1, Division 2 certification in hazardous environments.
In the PLC control system, the main function of the 1746-OX8 output module is to convert the logic output signals issued by the central processing unit (CPU) into on-site available switch quantity electrical signals, and drive actual execution devices (such as relays, indicator lights, solenoid valves, etc.). The SLC 500 series uses the backplane bus to communicate with the CPU and share the power supply.
1746-OX8 is designed to be placed in the slot of the standard SLC 500 chassis (1746 Chassis). This chassis usually consists of multipleslotso, ts including PLC CPU, input module, output module, communication module, etc.

Configuration of 1746-OX8 in RSLogix 50
When configuring the 1746-OX8 in the Allen-Bradley RSLogix 500 software, the main steps are as follows:
✅ Create a project.
In RSLogix 500, create or open your SLC 500 PLC project.
✅ Add hardware module
Enter I/O Configuration:
Expand your rack (Rack) in the left tree-like structure.
Right-click on the corresponding slot and select "New Module".
Select the 1746-OX8 (8-point digital relay output module) from the module library.
✅ Set module parameters
| Module Type | 1746‑OX8 |
| Slot | Actual hardware slot number |
| Status | Enabled |
| I/O Base | Automatic or manual allocation |
✅ Referencing Outputs in PLC Program
In a rung (logic ladder), control the 0th output:
XIC I:0/0 ---- OTE O:1/0
Explanation: When input I:0/0 (a certain button or switch) is set to ON, output O:1/0 becomes conductive, thereby driving the 0th output of 1746-OX8.
The output address format O:1/0 in RSLogix 500 indicates:
O - Digital Output
1 - Module slot number (as set by you in the I/O configuration)
0 - Channel number (0 to 7 corresponds to 8-point output)
✅ Debugging and Monitoring
In the online mode:
Monitor the status of each output point (whether the corresponding OUT box is illuminated).
During the logical operation, test whether the on-site output conforms to the program response.
Feedback on the status indicator light of the monitoring module.
After the actual operation is completed, it is possible to check whether the on-site load equipment responds correctly.
