CI851K01 3BSE018101R1 is a communications module designed specifically for integration into System 800xA. The bus connection of the module uses Profibus-DP dedicated cables, and a termination resistor is added at the end of the network segment. Its modular design facilitates installation and expansion within the AC800M system. Its rugged construction withstands harsh industrial environments, delivering reliable performance and making it ideal for a wide range of industrial automation applications requiring serial communication.

PROFIBUS-DP Working Principle
The 3BSE018101R1 CI851K01 module serves as a PROFIBUS‑DP master station interface module, primarily responsible for controlling the data exchange between the master station and multiple slave stations in the network:
The main station controller (AC800M) sends data read/write requests to CI851K01.
**CI851K01 converts the protocol and distributes the requests to the PROFIBUS-DP bus;
The slave devices (such as I/O, sensors) respond and return the data;
**CI851K01 returns the data to the controller for real-time control and monitoring.
Communication with S200/S800 I/O devices
In the ABB distributed control system, the S200/S800 series I/O modules are usually used as remote field I/O devices. The 3BSE018101R1 CI851K01 connects these remote I/Os through the PROFIBUS-DP bus to achieve:
Logical input acquisition
Remote reading of switch quantity and analog quantity
Downloading of on-site output control commands
Collection of communication diagnostic information

Installation and Usage
communication Interface -TP851, Baseplate, width = 60 mm. Used when
connecting S200 I/O on Profibus. Note! This part is not RoHS 2
2011/65/EU compliant. This is a spare part for systems placed on the market before July 22, 2017, and may only be ordered for repair, reuse, updating of functionalities, or upgrading of capacity. For new installations, please order CI854AK01 or CI854BK01 instead.
The 3BSE018101R1 CI851K01 module needs to be installed in conjunction with the TP851 base:
-- Install the TP851 base module in the forward direction onto the DIN rail inside the control cabinet.
-- Connect the Profibus cable to the PROFIBUS interface on the module.
-- After completing the hardware installation, configure the PROFIBUS network in the control system engineering software:
Open the engineering software, such as ABB 800xA Control Builder
Add the PROFIBUS master module (select the device represented by CI851K01)
Assign PROFIBUS network parameters:
PROFIBUS address (node number)
Transmission rate (recommend 12 Mbit/s)
Terminal switch settings (if applicable)
Add slave device information (such as S200/S800 I/O) to complete the entire PROFIBUS topology
Assign I/O channel mapping so that the controller can correctly identify the field data.
--After the installation is completed and the parameters are set, the following tests should be conducted:
✔ Check if the PROFIBUS bus is successfully connected.
✔ Test if the master station can recognize the slave I/O modules.
✔ Dynamically monitor the quality of PROFIBUS signals and message exchanges.
✔ Check the status of the module indicator lights (power/communication/error indication)
Faults and Troubleshooting Methods
If you need assistance, please contact info@htechplc.com
Q: The module does not have PROFIBUS communication.
A: Bus terminal not activated / wiring error & PROFIBUS address conflict
--Check the Profibus terminal resistance settings
Confirm that there are no duplicate node addresses on the network
Reinsert and remove the module to ensure good contact with the backplane
Q: How does it communicate with the on-site equipment?
A: Communicate the controller to multiple remote I/O, sensors, and field devices via the Profibus-DP bus.
Q: Module status indicator light malfunction: The LED status of the PROFIBUS module is abnormal. For example, the communication light does not flash, the error light is on, and the operation light is off.
A: The module has just restarted/is in the process of being configured.
No data has been received from the controller (the bus is not activated).
There is a configuration error or a hardware failure within the module.
--✔ If the module has just been powered on, please wait for the module initialization to complete.
✔ Check whether the CEX/bus power supply, backplane connection, and interface contact are all in good condition.
✔ If the module remains in an incorrect state for a long time, it may be necessary to reinsert or replace the module board.
