Direct selection answer

Choose the model by its specified measuring direction

VS-068 and VS-069 share the same sensing principle and core electrical performance, but they are not one universal part number. The installation orientation determines which model is appropriate.

How it works

Direct vibration-velocity measurement without external sensor power

The sensor uses an electrodynamic moving-coil principle. Mechanical vibration produces an electrical signal proportional to vibration velocity for compatible monitoring and protection equipment.

What the sensor measures

VS-068 and VS-069 are used to measure the absolute vibration of machine bearings or casings. The resulting signal can support condition monitoring, alarm evaluation and machinery-protection decisions when it is connected to a compatible measurement channel.

Why orientation matters

The internal electrodynamic mechanism is designed for a defined measuring direction. Selecting VS-068 for a required vertical position-or VS-069 for a required horizontal position-without engineering confirmation may lead to an unsuitable installation. Do not approve a substitution by appearance alone.

Monitoring-system matching

Confirm input compatibility, sensitivity, frequency response, cable termination and any required sensor linearization in the receiving monitoring system. The sensor specification and the monitor-channel configuration must be treated as one measurement chain.

Not an ATEX model

Official product data lists no hazardous-area approval for VS-068 or VS-069. For a classified area, do not assume these standard models are acceptable; verify the required certified sensor and the complete installation design.

Procurement risk control

Four checks before we confirm a quotation

A model number is the starting point. A dependable replacement decision also needs the installation and signal-chain details.

Identify the exact model

Confirm VS-068 or VS-069 from the existing sensor nameplate, maintenance record or approved bill of materials.

Confirm the axis

State whether the measurement point requires horizontal or vertical measurement and provide a mounting photo when possible.

Check the connection

Confirm cable length, termination, protective conduit, junction box and monitoring-channel requirements.

Define the supply scope

State the required condition, quantity, documentation, accessories, delivery destination and project schedule.

Pre-shipment verification

Inspection evidence tied to the actual quoted sensor

The quotation should state the unit condition and which inspection records are available. Generic "100% tested" language is not a substitute for traceable evidence.

View Product Testing
  • Model and visible nameplate details checked against the request
  • Housing, mounting interface and cable condition visually inspected
  • Measurement-direction requirement recorded before substitution approval
  • Supplied accessories and cable/protective-conduit scope confirmed
  • Available inspection photos linked to the actual quoted item
  • Electrical or functional checks identified with method and result when available
  • Packaging arranged to protect the sensor body, cable and termination during transit
  • Warranty, lead time and commercial terms stated in the formal quotation
Condition disclosure

New, new-surplus, refurbished and tested-used items must be described separately. The product photo, nameplate, packaging, warranty and test evidence should correspond to the condition offered.

Industrial applications

For permanent vibration monitoring on rotating machinery

Application suitability depends on the machine, measuring axis, vibration range, environment and compatible monitoring electronics.

01 / MOTORS

Electric motors

Bearing and casing vibration trending for rotating electrical equipment.

02 / PUMPS

Centrifugal pumps

Monitoring vibration associated with operating condition and mechanical health.

03 / FANS

Fans and blowers

Permanent measurement at defined bearing-housing positions.

04 / COMPRESSORS

Compressors

Velocity measurement as part of a compatible machine-monitoring system.

05 / GEARBOXES

Gear-driven equipment

Machine-casing vibration monitoring within the specified frequency range.

06 / TURBOMACHINERY

Industrial turbines

Absolute bearing-vibration measurement where the system design specifies this sensor type.

Installation essentials

Protect measurement quality from mounting errors

Installation and commissioning should be completed by qualified personnel in accordance with the current manufacturer instructions and site electrical-safety rules.

Before installation

  • Isolate the machine and follow the site lockout/tagout procedure.
  • Verify the sensor model and measuring direction.
  • Inspect the mounting surface, threaded connection and cable route.
  • Confirm the monitoring input is configured for the sensor sensitivity and signal type.
  • Check whether protective conduit, junction box or additional cable protection is required.

During installation

  • Use the manufacturer-specified mounting method, adapter and tightening requirement.
  • Keep the mounting surface rigid, clean and suitable for vibration transmission.
  • Avoid sharp cable bends, crushing, abrasion and unsupported cable strain.
  • Do not use the installed sensor or its cable as a step, handle or lifting point.

During commissioning

  • Verify signal polarity and termination against the current wiring documentation.
  • Check the channel response and baseline reading under controlled operating conditions.
  • Record the model, serial/nameplate information, measurement point and axis in the maintenance system.

Frequently asked questions

B&K Vibro VS-068 and VS-069 FAQ

What is the main difference between VS-068 and VS-069?

The principal selection difference is measuring direction. B&K Vibro specifies VS-068 for horizontal measurement and VS-069 for vertical measurement. Both models share the electrodynamic principle, 100 mV/mm/s sensitivity and a 10 Hz to 2,000 Hz operating frequency range.

Can VS-069 directly replace VS-068?

Not by model similarity alone. VS-068 and VS-069 are specified for different measuring directions. Confirm the required axis, mounting position, cable configuration and monitoring-channel compatibility before approving a replacement.

Do these sensors require an external power supply?

The passive electrodynamic sensor itself does not require an external power supply. It generates a voltage signal in response to vibration. The receiving monitoring equipment must still have a compatible velocity-sensor input and the correct channel configuration.

What is the sensitivity of VS-068 and VS-069?

Both models are specified at 100 mV per mm/s with a tolerance of ±5% at the reference frequency. Confirm the current data sheet and monitoring-channel setup before commissioning.

What frequency range do the sensors cover?

The specified operating frequency range is 10 Hz to 2,000 Hz. System-level performance can also depend on mounting quality, cable condition and the connected monitoring electronics.

Are VS-068 and VS-069 approved for hazardous areas?

No hazardous-area approval is listed for the standard VS-068 and VS-069 models. If the measurement point is in a classified area, specify the required certification and obtain engineering approval for the correct certified sensor and installation components.

What should I send for a quotation?

Send the exact model, clear nameplate and overall photos, required measuring direction, machine and monitoring-system details, cable and accessory requirements, condition, quantity, delivery destination and required date.

Can inspection photos or test records be supplied?

Available inspection photos and test records can be identified during quotation. The requested evidence, test method, acceptance criteria and actual result should be confirmed for the specific supplied item rather than assumed from a generic product statement.
